Past Present Future Tense Words
Look at the following sentences: 1. I go to school every day. 2. The boys are playing there. 3. He bought an umbrella. 4. Her brother will come tomorrow. 5. I have seen this film. 6. The sunrise in the east.
The verb forms in the sentences above indicate the time at which the actions take place. Such verb forms are called tenses. One should be very clear about the relation between time and tense. This relationship is not always necessary.
In a sentence like A collector is visiting the flood-hit area the tense is present but the time indicated is future; similarly, in the sentence, If he met you tomorrow, he would give you the news’ the tense is past but the time referred to is future.
It is clear from these examples that the present tense does not always indicate the present time. Similarly, the past tense does not always indicate past time. Hence it is important that time and tense should not be confused.
